Letter: New wave energy

Sir: Whatever happened to wave power, asks Ellis Miles (letter, 16 November). It is alive and flourishing - for instance in Denmark where the government has allocated pounds 2m a year to developing it.

The Danes will soon be in line to mop up a world market just as they did with wind turbines, which provide 8,000 jobs for their economy.

John Battle, the Energy Minister, has repeatedly promised that wave power will be in the Renewable Energy Review which was due out last March and has since been given a list of sliding targets for publication; the latest is "by the end of the year".

We seem to be getting into position for the traditional British disaster. We led the world with pioneering research from 1974 onwards and now seem ready to watch the Danes (and other countries including Portugal and India) reap the reward.
