Sir: Richard Graham states (letter, 12 November) that "the single currency is a real necessity for all businesses". Why? Seventy per cent of UK businesses' trade stays in the country and therefore the single currency will have little or no impact on them. Of the remaining 30 per cent, half goes to Europe and half to the rest of the world. Is anyone seriously suggesting that because we are not in the single currency other European firms will not deal with us? All that will happen is that there will be an exchange rate, rather like now, and trade will continue.
