The profitable Potter franchise nears its end with this, the first half of the dark final book.

Harry, Ron and Hermione have left Hogwarts and are looking for Horcruxes – which, for the uninitiated, are fragments of Lord Voldemort's soul. The story is complex and David Yates has to assume a vast amount of knowledge in his audience. There are some gripping moments and plenty of how-did-they-do-that CGI – a scene in which seven people turn into seven Harry Potters is eye-catching. But this is a static, plot-driven film with not enough action. One for dedicated Potter fans only.
