DVD: 127 Hours (15)

A self-centred young thrill-seeker, Aron Ralston, shoots off to Utah's Blue John Canyon, slips down a ravine and traps his right arm under a boulder.

He agonises – over 127 hours – whether or not to lop the limb off, and anyone with any knowledge of Boyle's hyperactive film knows he eventually does, in a suitably graphic and grisly fashion. That's pretty much it and it takes a while to... ahem... cut to the chase. Boyle fills the rest of this one-gimmick film with frenetic shots of Ralston's past and some dehydrated ramblings to camera. Meanwhile, we ghoulishly wait for the "money shots". James Franco is perfectly fine in the main role, but does anyone really need to see this?
