The week's other 3-D adventure swaps Vikings for the ancient Greeks, who have apparently become so uppity that Zeus (Liam Neeson) intends to make an example of them.

He allows his evil brother, Hades (Ralph Fiennes, surely auditioning for Fagin) to unleash the Kraken on the hubristic city of Argos, a calamity that can only be averted by demi-god Perseus (Sam Worthington) and his brave band of brothers – Mads Mikkelsen, Liam Cunningham, Nicholas Hoult and several other B-list actors you may recognise beneath the tans and the bad wigs. One or two setpieces briefly wake up the story – the visit to Medusa's cave, a parley with the three witches (isn't that Macbeth?) – but this is generally a hit-and-myth affair. As for Andromeda, the maiden Perseus must save from the monster, I still revere Judi Bowker in the 1981 original.
