Cobra Kai: First trailer for Karate Kid sequel is here

The rivalry between Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRussa is still going strong 30 years later

The first trailer for The Karate Kid sequel Cobra Kai is here - with Ralph Macchio and William Zabka once again taking on their roles from the 1984 film.

In the preview for the YouTube series, Zabka's Johnny Lawrence plans to reopen the dojo, as shots of trophies and training are shown.

At the same time, a voiceover of the studio's principles, "We're not trained to be merciful here. Mercy is for the weak" accompany the visuals.

The late Mr Miyagi's teachings are chanted by Macchio's Daniel LaRussa: "You may have the moves but none of that matters unless you have balance."

The trailer, which is under a minute long, ends with Lawrence and LaRussa in a face-off 30 years later at the Cobra Kai dojo.

LaRussa proclaims to Lawrence, “Johnny, you and I, this, we aren’t done.”

The synopsis gives more details on the forthcoming film saying, "Karate Kid's Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso aren't the same people they were in high school— but their rivalry hasn’t changed one bit. The Karate Kid saga continues."

Cobra Kai will also star Courtney Henggeler (Mom, Fixed) as Daniel's wife, Vanessa Rubio (How To Be Single) as Lawrence's girlfriend and Xolo Maridueña as Carmen's son Miguel.

Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle writers Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg and Josh Heald (Hot Tub Time Machine) are on-board to write and executive produce the series.

Hurwitz and Schlossberg will also direct the majority of the inaugural season.

Of the project, YouTube's global head of original content Susanne Daniels said, "The minute I heard about this project, I knew we had to have it. The Karate Kid became an instant classic in the 1980s and still resonates with audiences around the world and on YouTube today."

There is no release date set for the series yet.
