Gerard Butler will no longer star in the remake of the classic action movie Point Break after reportedly dropping out of the project.

Butler was due to play thief Bodhi, who was originally played by Patrick Swayze in the 1991 film, and was set to star alongside Luke Bracey, who has been cast as Keanu Reeves' original character FBI agent Johnny Utah.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the 300 and How to Train Your Dragon actor has left the project due to creative differences and clashes in his filming schedule.

Butler is currently about to start filming action film London Has Fallen, the sequel to Olympus Has Fallen, which will be filmed in London this autumn.

He has also been cast in Geostorm, a forthcoming movie from the producer of Independence Day and Godzilla.

The Point Break remake will be directed by Ericson Core, a cinematographer by trade who has previously served as director of photography on The Fast and the Furious and Dancing at the Blue Iguana.

Ray Winstone and Matias Varela will also star in the movie, which will be released next July in what is already being called a blockbuster summer for film, with Superman/Batman, Ant-Man and Jurassic World also due for release.
