Elsa, Anna, Olaf and the rest of the Frozen gang are set to return for a new Disney short film in spring 2015.

Fans of the Oscar-winning hit movie have been pushing for a sequel since its huge success last year, but producers confirmed that there are “no plans” for a feature-length big screen follow-up.

Instead, Frozen Fever will reunite viewers with their favourite main characters, with the official synopsis reading: “It’s Anna’s birthday and Elsa and Kristoff are determined to give her the best celebration ever, but Elsa’s icy powers may put more than just the party at risk.”

The film will include a new original song, too, from Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, the husband and wife songwriting duo behind “Let It Go”.

The news was revealed during ABC's broadcast of The Story of Frozen: Making an Animated Classic last night.

For those of us who simply can’t wait to sing, or rather scream along to the soundtrack, a sing-a-long Frozen DVD is due out in November.

The icy fairytale became the most successful animated film in history when it took £723 million at the global box office. This figure also cemented Frozen as the fifth highest grossing movie ever.

Although not confirmed, reports suggest that Frozen Fever may be shown in cinemas prior to screenings of Kenneth Branagh’s live action Cinderella remake next March.
