The actor set to replace Peter Capaldi in the lead role of Doctor Who
Viewers will learn the new actor's identity after the Wimbledon men's singles final that will see Roger Federer take on Marin Cilic from 2pm.
The news was confirmed by the long-running BBC series' Twitter page.
The frontrunners include Kris Marshall, whose odds were slashed after his departure from BBC series Death in Paradise , Broadchurch actress Jodie Whittaker Oscar-winning star Tilda Swinton.
Michaela Coel (Chewing Gum ) and Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag ) have also been touted as potentially becoming the first female Doctor despite the latter's agency stating otherwise.
Capaldi became the 12th Doctor after Matt Smith stepped down in 2013. His final episode, airing on Christmas Day, will also mark the swansong of lead writer Steven Moffat who will be by Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall.
