Cate Blanchett has revealed that she sustained a minor head injury in a “chainsaw accident” while self-isolating in her East Sussex home.

The Oscar-winning actor told the story during a podcast interview with former Australian prime minister Julia Gillard.

“I’m fine,” she assured people during an episode of A Podcast of One’s Own with Julia Gillard. ”I had a bit of a chainsaw accident yesterday, which sounds very, very exciting, but it wasn’t.”

“Apart from the little nick to the head, I’m fine.”

Gillard responded by saying: “Be very careful with that chainsaw. You’ve got a very famous head; I don’t think people would like to see any nicks taken out of it.”

Blanchett did not elaborate further on the exact nature of the accident.

On the podcast, the Blue Jasmine star also spoke about the day-to-day realities of her life during lockdown, and revealed she had taken a year off work to help her son through his A-Level exams.

“I took the year off ostensibly to be with him and support him through exam period,” she said.

‘”And then all of this exam stuff evaporated and I’m left with an 18-year-old who doesn’t really want to have anything to do with me!”

She continued: “it’s a little bit discombobulating, but it’s a high-class problem; we’re all well.”
