American Honey trailer: Shia LaBeouf stars in dreamy road trip Cannes winner
A new trailer for American Honey dropped today, a film by writer-director Andrea Arnold (Fish Tank, Transparent) that won the Jury Prize at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
It’s essentially a road trip movie about young people being carefree and giving themselves over to hedonism. This is obviously well-trodden territory, so the trailer tackles it head on, claiming in a somewhat odd voiceover: ‘Only a few times in a generation does a film speak to youth in a lasting and powerful way, and belie an optimistic message about the American Dream,” (implying this is it).
Sasha Lane plays a troubled teen who is persuaded into joining a traveling magazine sales crew by charismatic leader Jake (Shia LeBaeouf) - the group enjoy wild experiences, but inevitably things take a dark and emotional turn.
UK trailer:
Riley Keough (The Girlfriend Experience) also appears in the indie flick, which Variety described as ‘part dreamy millennial picaresque, part distorted tapestry of Americana and part exquisitely illustrated iTunes musical’.
American Honey opens in UK cinemas on 14 October.
