Based on a true story, this dramatic thriller follows Oscar winner Hilary Swank ( Amelia, Million Dollar Baby) as Betty Ann, a working mother who gets her law degree in order to represent her brother, played by Sam Rockwell ( Moon), who was wrongfully convicted of murder. But first she must complete high school.
The footage depicts her struggle over 18 years, first with studies and then unearthing evidence, as her brother also struggles with a lifetime prison sentence. Hanging onto hope she attempts to exonerate him. The film also stars Minnie Driver ( The Phantom of the Opera) as Betty Ann's friend and Melissa Leo ( Frozen River) as the police officer.
Formerly called 'Betty Ann Waters,' it is directed by actor Tony Goldwyn who has directed acclaimed television series such as Dexter, The L Word and Damages. It may be released late this year in time for the Oscars.
