The biopic Hoover, about the controversial former head of the FBI, J. Edgar Hoover, and directed by Clint Eastwood, will star Leonardo DiCaprio in the title role, noted the Deadline Hollywood blog.

Written by Oscar-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black ( Milk), the story will focus on the life of the first director of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation, who took on the 1930s American gangsters and notorious criminals John Dillinger and Pretty Boy Floyd, and reigned at the government agency for 37 years.

Eastwood's next film due in October is Hereafter, a supernatural thriller starring Matt Damon, about a blue-collar American, a French journalist and a London schoolboy who are touched by death.

This is the first time DiCaprio has worked with Eastwood. The actor recently starred in Martin Scorsese's Shutter Island and will star in Christopher Nolan's sci-fi thriller Inception, releasing July 16 in North America. Among his many projects, he's set to produce Blink, starring Al Pacino and based on the Malcolm Gladwell non-fiction best-selling book.
