Filipinos protest against contraceptives
MANILA (Reuter) - Hundreds of thousands of Filipinos rallied yesterday against a 'global dictatorship' swamping the Third World with contraceptives. Pro-lifers heeded the Roman Catholic church's call by gathering to oppose a government campaign to cut the impoverished country's high population growth. Cardinal Jaime Sin and former president Corazon Aquino led the protest by burning sex magazines and a document expected to be presented at next month's population forum in Cairo which the Church said would promote contraception and abortion.
