Horror film icon Wes Craven to write graphic novel

Filmmaker Wes Craven is set to create his first graphic novel story, according to an announcement made July 23 during the San Diego Comic-Con. The four-book series is ultimately expected to get a big-screen adaptation.

Craven's graphic novel will be a collaboration with Liquid Comics, which is currently gathering creators to collaborate on the project, and with producer Arnold Rifkin ( Hostage, 16 Blocks, Live Free or Die Hard), who will ultimately bring the graphic novel to the big screen.

Details on Craven's story have not yet been released, but Craven called it "an idea I've been dying to get out there" in a statement.

Liquid plans to launch the story as a four-issue comic-book series beginning in early 2011. Digital initiatives will give fans chances to experience the story online and via a variety of mobile and gaming devices.

Wes Craven is an iconic filmmaker in the horror genre, having both written and directed The Hills Have Eyes and A Nightmare on Elm Street. His latest film, Scream 4, is set for release in 2011.
