Velazquez in Seville

Despite the title, there's no need to travel to Spain for this rare Scottish showing of the influential Hispanic master. Highlights include the National Gallery's own "Woman Cooking Eggs" (you can't make a Spanish omelette without one) and a visiting "Man with a Ruff".

To 20 Oct. National Gallery of Scotland, The Mound, Edinburgh (0131-556 8921)

Jamming Gears

To celebrate the Serpentine's forthcoming redevelopment of the neighbouring teahouse, artist Richard Wilson takes the place apart. Wilson, best known for his pristine pool of oil, as smooth as a sheet of polished steel, promises to transform the space. Worth a visit.

To 15 Sept. Serpentine Gallery (0171-402 6075)

Hans Hartung

Occasionally, just occasionally, an exhibition comes along that, while small in scale, highlights a major aspect of art history. Such a show is this display of around 100 late works on paper from the Teutonic Tachiste's personal collection in Antibes.

To 20 Oct. Tate Gallery, Millbank, London SW1 (0171-887 8000)
