David Beckham says his MLS franchise will give the 'young kids of Miami' a chance

David Beckham has announced that the name of his MLS expansion club is Club Internacional de Futbol Miami, shortened to Inter Miami CF.

The franchise, which will enter the MLS in 2020, also boasts a crest that features two herons with their legs intertwined on a pink and black background.

Beckham posted a short video on Instagram unveiling the name and crest of his club, which will become Miami’s first MLS representative since Miami Fusion folded in 2001.

In the caption alongside the video, Beckham wrote: "Four years ago, we dreamt of a soccer club. Today, we’re proud to announce the official name and crest of our new team, Club Internacional de Fútbol Miami. THIS IS US. THIS IS MIAMI."

Beckham, who spent five seasons in MLS with LA Galaxy before leaving to join Paris Saint-Germain in 2013, serves as both the franchise’s owner and president of football operations.

“This is such a proud day for myself and for the entire team,” he added in a statement. “It’s an honour to announce the new name and crest to our fans - we are taking another important step in establishing our club and today marks an important moment in the history of Club Internacional de Fútbol Miami.

“Club Internacional de Fútbol Miami is a name that celebrates the incredible energy of one of the most exciting cities in the world - one that is diverse, passionate and ambitious - a city that has welcomed me and so many others so warmly.

“Our club will be a home for all – no matter where you are from or how you got here. This is just the beginning of our journey as we continue to build towards our first game in 2020.”

MLS is in the process of a multi-year expansion process that will see the league grow to 26 teams by 2020. Los Angeles-based LAFC currently sit second in the Western Conference in their first season in the league, with FC Cincinnati set to join in 2019 and a Nashville franchise poised to be introduced along with Inter Miami the following year.
