2019 iPhone XI renders exclusive first look

New leaked photos that claim to show internal parts of the new iPhone could suggest it is going to receive a major redesign.

The photos – shared widely online after being first uploaded to Slashleaks – show what appears to be the logic board that will power the new iPhone. The logic board is the main circuit board within the phone, and is responsible for housing and communicating with the various electronic parts that allow it to run.

On the face of it, the leak suggests little about the new phone: it doesn't indicate what it will look like on the outside, or what new features it will have.

But the parts seem to show that the design of the logic board has been moved around, apparently making way for the battery.

The outside of the new iPhones are expected to be largely in line with the current line-up of the iPhone XR, XS and XS Max, keeping a similar size format and overall design. It will have a redesigned camera – perhaps with three different lenses, arranged in a square on the back – but otherwise they are expected to look largely the same.

It is on the inside where the changes are expected to come, however. And the new leak suggests that the battery will be vastly increased, with the phone being reorganised to make space for it.

Previous rumours have suggested that the new phones could have up to 20 per cent more battery, along with other features.

It remains unclear whether the extra battery will be used to power new parts of the phone and so exist to preserve the current battery life, or if Apple will sell the extra charging capability as one of the new features of the phone.

The change in the placement of the logic board could also make way for those extra camera lenses.

The function of those additional lenses is also still largely unknown – while some have suggested it could offer extra zoom, it could also allow for entirely new features like 3D scanning of the environment.
