Hulu, the streaming service, has stopped working.

Vast numbers of users report they are unable to get onto the service and watch TV or films.

Tracking website Down Detector reported that thousands of people said they were unable to get onto the site.

Reports came from across the US, which is the site's main market. Hulu has no international availability, with the company committing to expand into other countries from next year.

Hulu does not operate its own server status page to check whether it is aware of or working on a fix for issues.

It does run a customer service Twitter account, but the outage came in the middle of the night local pacific time, during which hours it is not operated. When users have contacted that account with problems in the past, it has directed them to the company's special page for issues loading the app.

The outage came just hours after similar problems at rival Netflix, which have since seemingly been fixed.
