The hugely anticipated handheld version of The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D will be released next month, Nintendo has announced today.

Majora’s Mask, which is the sixth main instalment of The Legend of Zelda series, will hit shelves in Europe on February 13, coinciding with the release of the new Nintendo 3DS and 3DS XL.

A limited edition of the 3DS XL will be available to European gamers, which features artwork of the so-called mask on a golden steelcase.

The Japanese manufacturer also said that the console will have faster processing speeds compared to the last.

The original Majora’s Mask was released on the landmark Nintendo 64 in 2000 and was a firm favourite amongst Zelda fans, with three million copies selling worldwide.

Last year director of the game, Eiji Aonuma, told the Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu that some aspects of will be changed for the 3DS. He told the magazine that a boss fight had been changed and that players will now get to fish in the game.

“There might be something monstrous you could fish out, so please look forward to it," he said.
