Famous for its seafood snacks, stilt houses, Water Parade and fishing culture, Tai O village in Lantau Island is home to Tai O Market Street.

Visitors can expect to smell the powerful scent coming from the homemade shrimp-paste, salted fish, shrimp sauce, salted fish and dried seafood that are being sold in the shops adjacent to the rope-drawn ferry bridge on Tai O Market Street.

There are other types of food to try too apart from dried or salted fish. There are eggettes, Chinese pizza, waffles, barbecued oysters and hot tofu pudding to name a few.

How to get there

  • MTR Tung Chung Station, Exit B and go to the bus terminus. From the bus terminus next to the MTR station, take bus 11 to Tai O bus terminus (the journey takes approximately 50 minutes) and walk for around five minutes to the Rope-drawn Ferry Bridge. Walk another five minutes after crossing the bridge. The market is located on both sides of the bridge or
  • MTR Tung Chung Station Exit B. Take Ngong Ping Cable Car to Ngong Ping Village (approximately 25 minutes). Take bus 21 to Tai O bus terminus (approximately 20 minutes) and walk for around five minutes to the Rope-drawn Ferry Bridge. Walk another five minutes after crossing the bridge. The market is located on both sides of the bridge
